Brothers and Sisters,
On August 4th 2022, 4th Year Local 932 apprentice Alysia Borgogno had the opportunity to speak to the attendees of Coos Bay Zonta Club's Girls Rock it- Tools & Trade Summer Camp. She had the following remarks about her experience speaking to the 8-12 year old girls at the camp.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Zonta of Coos Bay, a club dedicated to women’s empowerment, for inviting me to speak at their second annual Girls Rock It- Tools & Trade Summer Camp on August 4th, 2022. As Chairman of Local 932’s Women’s Committee, and Vice- Chairman of our local’s RENEW Committee, I am always excited to reach women and younger community members, to educate them on the amazing benefits and opportunities that union membership and apprenticeships offer.
I had the privilege to do exactly that at G.R.i.T.T, a camp that teaches 8- 12-year-old girls about basic construction, STEAM, and career opportunities in the trades. These girls were great. They asked a lot of intelligent questions about my experiences, the apprenticeship, and what it is like to be a woman in the trades, as well as a few funny comments and questions. All in all, it was a very rewarding experience getting to talk to these bright and engaged young women. I look forward to having the chance to participate in more events like this in the future!”
